1012-Month MPSC Rajyaseva Study Plan

Month 1–2Foundation — Maharashtra Focus

Start with NCERT History (6–12) and then Maharashtra-specific history: Maratha Empire, Social Reform movements (Phule, Ambedkar), and Maharashtra State formation. Read Indian Polity (Laxmikanth) in parallel. These two subjects together account for 35–40% of the Prelims Paper 1. Make Maharashtra-specific notes from day one.

Month 3–4Geography + Economy + Environment

Cover Maharashtra geography thoroughly: rivers (Godavari, Krishna, Koyna), districts, dams, agriculture zones, and agro-climatic regions. Combine with Indian geography. For Economy, cover the Maharashtra Economic Survey and Union Budget together. Yojana magazine (Marathi/English edition) is excellent for Economy + Environment combined.

Month 5–6CSAT + Current Affairs + Mock Tests

Start CSAT Paper 2 preparation: 90 minutes daily on Reasoning, Numeracy, and Comprehension. You must clear 33% (66 marks) in Paper 2 to have Paper 1 counted. Begin reading Lokmat / Maharashtra Times / The Hindu for current affairs. Start taking full-length Prelims mock tests (3 per week). Analyze every mock to eliminate weak areas.

Month 7–9Mains Writing + GS Papers

Shift to Mains preparation: practice 2 descriptive answers daily. Learn UPSC-level answer writing — introduction, structured body, Maharashtra example, conclusion with forward-looking statement. Cover GS II (Polity) and GS III (Economy) with Mains depth. Start optional subject from Month 8. One full Mains paper per week for practice.

Month 10–12Optional Subject + Revision + Ethics

Dedicate 60% of daily time to optional subject. Ethics (GS IV) requires case study practice — prepare 8–10 Maharashtra-specific administrative dilemmas. Revise entire GS syllabus once. 2 full Mains mock tests per month. Write essay drafts on Maharashtra development themes: Jal Yukta Shivar, drought, migration, tribal rights.

13Expert MPSC Rajyaseva Preparation Tips

🗺️

Maharashtra is the heart of MPSC Rajyaseva. Every GS paper has "with special reference to Maharashtra" in the syllabus. History, Geography, Economy, Polity — all need a Maharashtra lens. Aspirants who cover Maharashtra deeply outscore general GS toppers consistently.

📋

CSAT Paper 2 is deceptively important. You MUST score 33% (66 out of 200 marks) — failing CSAT means Paper 1 marks are NOT counted, regardless of how well you did. Give CSAT at least 30 minutes of daily practice throughout your preparation.

🔄

MPSC now uses a UPSC-aligned descriptive Mains pattern (9 papers). Answer writing practice is non-negotiable from Month 6 onward. Write at least 2 answers daily. Practice in both Marathi and English. Clarity of expression matters as much as content.

📰

Current affairs in MPSC are 50% Maharashtra-specific. Read Lokmat or Maharashtra Times daily alongside national newspapers. Focus on Maharashtra government schemes, CM-launched programs, districts in news, and state economic data. This is your edge over candidates who read only national news.

🎯

The Optional subject (26 choices) carries 500 marks (250 × 2) — the highest single subject weightage in Mains. Choose an optional you genuinely know well or one that overlaps with GS (Public Administration and Sociology overlap heavily with GS II and IV).

📅

MPSC runs multiple recruitment cycles in parallel (2025 Mains happening while 2026 Prelims approaches). Stay updated on the official exam calendar at mpsc.gov.in. Missing a notification or application deadline is a full year wasted.

💡

Ethics case studies in Paper 5 (GS IV) should use Maharashtra examples: Jal Yukt Shivar, drought in Marathwada, tribal migration in Nashik, urban slum rehabilitation in Mumbai. Real Maharashtra examples demonstrate administrative awareness and score higher than textbook answers.

🌐

Marathi proficiency is mandatory — you must read, write, and speak Marathi to qualify. Papers A and B (Marathi and English language) require 25% each to qualify. Practice Marathi essay writing and translation from Month 2 itself, not as an afterthought before the exam.
