Narrow rule: applies ONLY to candidates ordinarily domiciled in the erstwhile State of J&K between 1 Jan 1980 and 31 Dec 1989 — holding a J&K domicile today is not enough on its own. Additive to your category limit.

How is age calculated for government exam eligibility in 2026?
There is no single national cut-off date — each exam sets its own in its notification, and assuming 1 August for all of them is a common and costly mistake. For the 2026 cycles: UPSC CSE, SSC CGL and IBPS Clerk all reckon age as on 1 August 2026; IBPS PO uses 1 July 2026; SBI PO uses 1 April 2026; and RRB Group D (CEN 09/2025) and SSC GD use 1 January 2026. This tool uses each exam’s own official cut-off date and shows that date next to your result. Where a conducting body has not yet published a cut-off for the current cycle, we work to 1 August and flag any result close to an age limit as Borderline, so you know to confirm it rather than rely on it.
Do OBC, SC/ST candidates get age relaxation in government exams in 2026?
Yes. OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) candidates get 3 years of age relaxation in almost all central government exams. SC/ST candidates get 5 years. PwBD candidates get 10 years (General), 13 years (OBC) or 15 years (SC/ST) — these are single combined figures, not amounts you add together yourself. EWS candidates do NOT get any age relaxation; the limit is the same as General. Most notifications also state that relaxations are not cumulative: if you qualify under more than one ground you get the single largest, not the sum.
Can a final year graduation student apply for UPSC CSE 2026?
Yes — UPSC Civil Services allows candidates in the final year of graduation to appear, though you must produce your degree when filling the Detailed Application Form for Mains. Bank POs are stricter and differ from each other: IBPS PO 2026 required the final result to be declared on or before 21 July 2026, while SBI PO 2026 allowed final-year students to apply provisionally provided they can prove they passed on or before 30 September 2026. Always check the exact wording in the notification you are applying under.
Is there any attempt limit for SSC CGL, IBPS PO, or RRB NTPC in 2026?
No. SSC CGL, IBPS PO, SBI PO and RRB NTPC have no official attempt limit — you can keep appearing until you cross the age limit. Only UPSC Civil Services has a strict attempt limit: 6 attempts for General and EWS, 9 for OBC, and unlimited for SC/ST up to the age limit.
What physical standards are required for Railway NTPC 2026 posts?
All RRB NTPC posts require minimum distant vision of 6/9 in one eye and 6/12 in the other without glasses, along with normal colour vision and no night blindness. Station Master posts additionally require a height of 158 cm (male) or 152 cm (female). For comparison, SSC CPO Sub-Inspector requires 170 cm (male) or 157 cm (female), chest 80/85 cm, and corrected vision of 6/6 and 6/9. Note that height standards are relaxed for ST candidates and for candidates from specified hill and North-Eastern regions.
Which government exams can a 12th pass student apply for in 2026?
A 12th pass candidate can apply for SSC CHSL, RRB NTPC Undergraduate posts (Junior Clerk, Ticket Clerk, Commercial Apprentice), NDA, Agniveer (Army, Navy and Air Force), SSC GD Constable and many state police exams. CTET Paper 1 is also open at this level if you hold a D.El.Ed alongside your Class 12. UPSC, SSC CGL, IBPS PO and SBI PO all require a graduation degree.
How does EWS reservation work for government exam eligibility in 2026?
EWS (Economically Weaker Section) candidates get 10% reservation in central government jobs under the 103rd Constitutional Amendment. However, EWS does not receive any age relaxation — the age limit is identical to the General category. An EWS certificate from a competent authority, valid for the relevant financial year, is required at document verification.
