1 What is RRB NTPC?

RRB NTPC (Non-Technical Popular Categories) is a recruitment conducted by the 21 Railway Recruitment Boards (RRBs) of India to fill clerical, supervisory, and operational posts in Indian Railways — the world's fourth-largest rail network and one of the largest employers on the planet.

Unlike Group D (Level 1 manual posts), NTPC covers Group C posts — office-based and station-operation roles like Station Master, Goods Guard, Commercial Apprentice, and various clerk cadres. These jobs offer excellent pay, job security, non-contributory perks, and fast promotion tracks.

The 2025-26 cycle is split into two notifications — CEN 06/2025 for Graduate posts and CEN 07/2025 for Undergraduate posts — with a combined total of 8,868 vacancies.

11 Free Resources for RRB NTPC Preparation

12 Expert Preparation Tips

🌍
GA is king — invest 40% of your time
General Awareness carries 40 marks in CBT-1 and 50 marks in CBT-2. It is the highest-scoring section and the biggest differentiator. Indian Railways-specific questions appear every single year — memorise 18 zones with their HQs and recent Railway Budget highlights.
📐
Practice Maths with a timer from Day 1
In CBT-1, you get under 54 seconds per question on average. Speed comes from repeated timed practice, not just concept knowledge. Use previous year questions and mock tests under strict time conditions.
🔁
Solve 5+ years of PYQs
RRB repeats concepts and similar questions across cycles. Previous year papers (available free on rrbcdg.gov.in) are your single most valuable resource. Analyse patterns in GA questions especially.
⚠️
Avoid blind guessing — negative marking applies
1/3rd mark is deducted for every wrong answer. Only guess when you can eliminate at least 2 options confidently. Unattempted questions are always safer than wild guesses.
🎯
Target your post wisely
CBT-1 is common, but CBT-2 merit lists are post-specific. Rank your post preferences carefully — Station Master is prestigious but requires CBAT; Goods Guard has the highest vacancy. Choose based on your strengths and long-term career goals.
📱
Use your phone for current affairs daily
15 minutes every morning on a current affairs app or newspaper headline digest compounds over 6 months into a massive GA advantage. Focus on national news, Indian Railways, and science/tech developments.
