Phase 2 — Main Exam
Objective type | 200 questions | 250 marks | 2 hours | Each question = 1.25 marks | Negative marking: −0.25/wrong | Mains score determines final merit
| Section | Questions | Marks | Time |
|---|---|---|---|

Phase 3 — Regional Language Test (LPT)

13Expert Tips from Toppers
Master Sectional Cut-offs First
Both Prelims and Mains have sectional cut-offs. A high overall score won't save you if you skip Computer Knowledge in Mains. Allocate at least 10–15 minutes of daily practice per section from Day 1.
Insurance GA is Your Differentiator
Most candidates ignore Insurance Awareness — IRDAI guidelines, PSU general insurers, GIPSA wage structures, and GIC subsidiaries. 8–10 questions from this topic alone can push your Mains score above the cut-off.
Regional Language Test is Mandatory
The Local/Regional Language Test (LPT) is qualifying in nature — you must pass it. If your regional language is not strong, start practising basic reading and writing early.
Prelims Marks Don't Count for Merit
Only Mains marks determine final selection. Use Prelims to qualify with a buffer, then pour 80% of your energy into Mains preparation — especially GA, Computer, and DI.
Apply for the Right State
NIACL Assistants are recruited state/UT-wise and must know the regional language of their posting state. Apply for the state where you are proficient in the local language, not just where vacancies are higher.
