2026 Status Update (as of 3 August 2026)

The NIACL Assistant 2026 notification is still not out. The 2025 cycle is fully complete and no vacancy figure has been announced for 2026 — every 2026 date on this page is marked TBN. 1What is NIACL Assistant 2026?

The New India Assurance Company Limited (NIACL) is India's largest public sector general insurance company, wholly owned by the Government of India. The Assistant post is a clerical-grade position responsible for policy servicing, claims processing, customer support, and financial record-keeping at NIACL's offices across India.

NIACL conducts the Assistant recruitment on an irregular basis (typically once in 1–2 years depending on vacancies). The selection involves a Prelims exam, a Mains exam, and a mandatory Regional Language Test. Candidates are state-wise recruited and must be proficient in the regional language of their applied state.

2NIACL vs NICL — Two Different Companies

If you searched for “NIACL Assistant recruitment 2026” and found news about 500 vacancies closing on 7 August 2026, that recruitment is NICL, not NIACL. The two names differ by a single letter and several websites have mixed them up. Read the comparison below before you apply anywhere.

The good news: both companies are GIPSA members, so they share the same pay scales and an almost identical Assistant exam pattern — Prelims, Mains and a Regional Language Test, with the same subjects. Everything you study from this page applies to both. Verify the NICL schedule and eligibility on nationalinsurance.nic.co.in before applying, since applications close on 7 August 2026.

There are four public sector general insurance companies that recruit Assistants on these shared GIPSA scales: NIACL (New India Assurance), NICL (National Insurance), OICL (Oriental Insurance) and UIICL (United India Insurance). They notify independently and at different times of the year, so it is worth tracking all four rather than waiting on one.

9Salary & Career Growth (Revised 2026)

💸 Pay scales were revised in 2026. The Government notified new pay scales for all Public Sector General Insurance Companies through the Gazette of India dated 11 February 2026 (S.O. 716–719(E)), effective retrospectively from 1 August 2022. The Assistant entry basic pay rose from ₹22,405 to ₹36,290 — an increase of roughly 62%. Many websites still show the old ₹22,405 figure; the revised scale below is the current one. Exact component-wise amounts will be confirmed in the next official notification.

14Expert Tips from Toppers

01

Master Sectional Cut-offs First

Both Prelims and Mains have sectional cut-offs. A high overall score won't save you if you skip Computer Knowledge in Mains. Allocate at least 10–15 minutes of daily practice per section from Day 1.

02

Insurance GA is Your Differentiator

Most candidates ignore Insurance Awareness — IRDAI guidelines, PSU general insurers, GIPSA wage structures, and GIC subsidiaries. 8–10 questions from this topic alone can push your Mains score above the cut-off.

03

Regional Language Test is Mandatory

The Local/Regional Language Test (LPT) is qualifying in nature — you must pass it. If your regional language is not strong, start practising basic reading and writing early.

04

Prelims Marks Don't Count for Merit

Only Mains marks determine final selection. Use Prelims to qualify with a buffer, then pour 80% of your energy into Mains preparation — especially GA, Computer, and DI.

05

Apply for the Right State

NIACL Assistants are recruited state/UT-wise and must know the regional language of their posting state. Apply for the state where you are proficient in the local language, not just where vacancies are higher.

06

Track All Four PSU Insurers, Not Just NIACL

NIACL, NICL, Oriental (OICL) and United India (UIICL) share the same GIPSA pay scales and an almost identical Assistant exam pattern. Preparing for one prepares you for all four — so watch every one of their career pages, because they notify at different times and a cycle you ignore is a chance you lose.

15Frequently Asked Questions

Is the NIACL Assistant 2026 notification out?
No. As of 3 August 2026 the New India Assurance Company Limited has not released an Assistant recruitment notification for 2026 on www.newindia.co.in. Any date you see quoted as the 2026 notification date is an unofficial estimate. NIACL runs Assistant recruitment irregularly — the last cycle was notified on 16 December 2024 — so treat every 2026 date as To Be Notified until the official PDF appears.
I saw news about 500 Assistant vacancies closing on 7 August 2026 — is that NIACL?
No, that is NICL — National Insurance Company Limited, a completely different public sector general insurer based in Kolkata. NICL released its Assistant (Class III) notification on 17 July 2026 for 500 posts, with applications open from 18 July to 7 August 2026, Prelims on 27 August 2026 and Mains on 30 October 2026, at nationalinsurance.nic.co.in. Several websites have wrongly labelled this as NIACL. NIACL (New India Assurance, Mumbai) has no live Assistant notification.
How many vacancies will NIACL Assistant 2026 have?
The vacancy count is To Be Notified. NIACL has not announced any figure for 2026. Several websites quote around 750 posts, but that is an unofficial projection based on the 2025 cycle (500 vacancies), not an official number. The confirmed state-wise and category-wise count will only appear in the official notification PDF.
What is the NIACL Assistant salary in 2026 after the wage revision?
The revised starting basic pay for an Assistant at a PSU general insurance company is ₹36,290 per month, in the pay scale ₹36,290–₹1,00,865 (with stagnation increments up to ₹1,29,215). Including DA, HRA, CCA, Fixed Personal Allowance and transport allowance, gross emoluments come to roughly ₹55,000–₹63,000 per month in metro centres, with an in-hand figure of about ₹52,000–₹58,000 after NPS deduction. These scales come from the Gazette of India notification dated 11 February 2026 (S.O. 716–719(E)), effective retrospectively from 1 August 2022, and apply to all GIPSA companies including NIACL.
Why do other websites still show NIACL Assistant basic pay as ₹22,405?
Because they have not updated their pages since the wage revision. ₹22,405 was the pre-revision basic pay under the old schedule. The Government notified new pay scales for all Public Sector General Insurance Companies through the Gazette of India on 11 February 2026, raising the Assistant entry basic pay to ₹36,290 — an increase of roughly 62%. Any page still quoting ₹22,405 as the current figure is out of date.
Is there negative marking in the NIACL Assistant exam?
Yes. There is a negative marking penalty of 0.25 marks (1/4th) for every incorrect answer in both the Prelims and Mains exams. Unattempted questions carry no penalty. Focus on accuracy over speed, especially in sections you are less confident about.
What is the selection process for NIACL Assistant?
The NIACL Assistant selection process has three stages: (1) Preliminary Exam — 100 marks, qualifying in nature; (2) Main Exam — 250 marks (200 questions × 1.25 marks each), determines final merit; and (3) Regional Language Test (LPT) — qualifying in nature, tests proficiency in the state's local language. Document verification follows final selection.

Revised salary figures follow the Gazette of India notification dated 11 February 2026 (S.O. 716–719(E)) covering all GIPSA companies; component-wise amounts are indicative and vary with DA rate, city of posting and deductions.
