RBI Assistant vacancies vary each year — 950 in 2021, 450 in 2023. The 2026 cycle is expected to have 450–950 vacancies based on this trend, distributed across 27–28 RBI regional offices/branches in India. The exact number is announced with the official notification PDF.

RBI Assistant starting basic pay is approximately ₹20,700/month under RBI's own pay scale (RBI does not follow IBA bipartite settlements). With Dearness Allowance, House Rent Allowance, City Compensatory Allowance, and other perks, the gross in-hand is approximately ₹44,000–₹47,000/month at metro postings at joining. After increments over time, it can reach ₹63,000–₹65,000/month (basic ₹45,950, maximum of the scale). Additionally, RBI provides subsidised housing or Staff Quarters, medical benefits, and LTC — making the total compensation package superior to most IBA bank clerk posts.

The Language Proficiency Test (LPT) is a qualifying round conducted after Mains results. Candidates must demonstrate proficiency in the official/local language of the state where they applied (e.g., Marathi for Maharashtra, Tamil for Tamil Nadu, Gujarati for Gujarat). The test is pass/fail — it does not add to merit marks. Failing LPT means disqualification even if you rank high in Mains. The test typically involves reading a passage aloud in the local language, writing a short paragraph, and basic comprehension. Candidates who completed their 10th or 12th in the local medium are usually well-prepared.

RBI Assistant is a premium clerical post in India's central bank (Reserve Bank of India), while IBPS Clerk covers 11 public sector banks.
