Complete Preparation Guide
RPF SI 2026 notification is To Be Notified (TBN). The Railway Protection Force (RPF) recruits Sub-Inspectors for railway security under the Ministry of Railways. Selection via CBT → PET → PMT → DV. Graduate degree required. Age 20–28 years. Pay Level 6 salary approximately ₹65,000–₹72,000/month gross (X-city, 2026 DA rates).
What is RPF SI 2026?
The Railway Protection Force (RPF) Sub-Inspector (SI) is a Group B (non-gazetted) Central Government uniformed post under the Ministry of Railways. RPF SIs are responsible for protecting railway property, passengers, and passenger area assets. They are empowered under the Railway Property (Unlawful Possession) Act, 1966, and play a frontline role in anti-trafficking, anti-trespassing, and passenger security operations.
RPF SIs work in both RPF (Railway Protection Force) and RPSF (Railway Protection Special Force). RPSF SIs are deployed for specialized tasks including escort duty on trains, VIP protection, and anti-Naxal operations in sensitive railway areas.
The selection is merit-based through a Computer Based Test (CBT), followed by a qualifying Physical Efficiency Test (PET) and Physical Measurement Test (PMT), and a final Document Verification. Only CBT marks form the final merit list — PET and PMT are pass/fail.

How to Apply for RPF SI 2026
Check rpf.indianrailways.gov.in and indianrailways.gov.in regularly. Enable job alerts on Sarkari Result or Adda247 Telegram for instant notification.
RPF applications are submitted through the official online portal. Keep scanned photo, signature, and documents ready. Fill all details carefully — errors at this stage cause rejection later.
General / OBC: ₹500 | SC / ST / Ex-SM / Female: ₹250. Payment via Net Banking, Debit/Credit Card, or UPI. Fee is non-refundable.
CBT admit card is available on the RPF portal ~10–15 days before the exam. Carry it with a valid photo ID (Aadhaar / Voter ID / Passport) to the exam centre.
CBT results are declared zone-wise. Shortlisted candidates (usually 10× vacancies) are called for PET/PMT. DV follows after PET/PMT.
6-Month Study Plan
Cover Number Systems, Percentage, Ratio, Profit & Loss, and SI/CI. Solve 20–30 Arithmetic questions daily. Start reading a daily newspaper (The Hindu or Dainik Jagran) for 15 minutes every morning — builds both General Awareness and reading habit. Finish Lucent's GK Chapter 1 (History) in parallel.
Complete all Reasoning topics — Series, Analogies, Coding-Decoding, Blood Relations, and Directions first. Move to Seating Arrangement and Syllogisms. For Arithmetic: tackle Time-Work, Speed-Distance, and Mensuration. Practice 1 topic mock daily.
This is the highest-scoring section at 50 marks. Complete Lucent's GK: History, Geography, Polity, Economy, and Science. Make a one-page cheat sheet per chapter. Study Indian Railways structure, RPF's role, important zones, and recent railway initiatives — these are frequently asked and often ignored.
Cover last 6 months of Current Affairs using monthly PDF capsules (Adda247, GK Today). Read about government schemes, sports news, appointments, and awards. Start taking 1 full CBT mock per week. Analyse your weak spots — don't repeat mock tests without analysis.
Final revision of all three subjects. Focus heavily on General Awareness — it's where toppers gain the most ground. Simultaneously, begin physical preparation: daily 1600 m run with a timer, practice long jump and high jump. Don't start physical prep only after CBT — PET comes quickly after results.
Take 2–3 full CBT mocks per week. Target 80–90 out of 120. Analyse every mock. Ensure you're meeting PET standards: run 1600 m consistently under 6:30 (male) or 800 m under 4:00 (female). Keep current affairs current — read daily capsules till exam day.

Expert Preparation Tips
General Awareness (50 marks) is the single biggest differentiator in RPF SI. Top candidates score 42–48 in GA while weaker ones score 25–30. Make GA your highest priority — not Arithmetic. Spend at least 40% of your study time on GA and Current Affairs.
Start physical preparation from Day 1 — not after CBT results. PET comes within 4–6 weeks of CBT result. Many candidates who clear CBT fail PET because they didn't prepare physically. Run 1600 m daily and practice long jump and high jump thrice a week.
RPF/Railways-specific GK is asked every year and often ignored by candidates. Study: RPF's role, RPSF, RPF Operations (anti-human trafficking, Meri Saheli), Indian Railways zones (18 zones), headquarter cities, Vande Bharat, Kavach TCAS, and major railway stations. These are easy marks.
Time management in CBT is critical: 90 minutes, 120 questions — roughly 45 seconds per question. Never spend more than 60 seconds on any single question. Attempt GA first (fastest for well-prepared candidates), then Reasoning, then Arithmetic. Mark doubtful questions and return.
Know the exact physical standards before you apply. Measure your height and chest (for males) at a clinic. If you're borderline on the chest measurement — train specifically for chest expansion. Candidates lose in PMT on a 1–2 cm shortfall that physical training could have fixed.
Current Affairs in RPF SI focuses heavily on government schemes, India-specific developments, sports results, and awards from the last 6 months. International news is minimal. Study monthly PDF capsules from GK Today or Adda247 — one capsule per month takes 2–3 hours and covers the entire month.
RPF SI is a uniformed gazetted service — the interview / DV panel notices confidence, appearance, and awareness about the job. Know what RPF does, current crime issues on railways, and India's security scenario. Many candidates arrive for DV without knowing basic RPF facts — don't be one of them.
No negative marking in RPF SI CBT — attempt ALL 120 questions. Never leave any blank. For unknown questions, eliminate 1–2 obviously wrong options and guess from the remaining. Even a blind guess from 2 options gives 50% accuracy — this can add 5–10 marks to your total.
