What is SSC Selection Post 2026?

The SSC Selection Post exam (also called Phase Exam or Selection Post Phase) is conducted annually by the Staff Selection Commission (SSC) to fill "isolated posts" — specific Group B and Group C positions in central government departments, ministries, and organisations that are not covered under the regular SSC CGL or CHSL exams.

What makes it unique is its three-level structure: separate exams for Matriculation (10th pass), Higher Secondary (12th pass), and Graduation & above candidates — all in the same cycle. This means candidates from different educational backgrounds can appear simultaneously and compete for posts matching their qualification. Popular posts include Lab Assistant, Deputy Ranger, UDC, Scientific Assistant, and Stenographer Grade II.

Phase XIV (2026) is the current cycle. The notification was released on 13 April 2026 for 2,919 vacancies across 9 SSC regions and multiple central government departments. With CBT in June 2026 and only ~6 weeks of preparation window from notification, early starters have a clear advantage.

Select the post codes you wish to apply for, based on your qualification level (Matriculation/Higher Secondary/Graduation) and preferred region. You can apply for multiple post codes but must submit separate applications. This step cannot be undone after final submission.

Upload Photo & Aadhaar Authentication

Upload a live photograph taken via webcam or smartphone (not a scanned photo). Aadhaar-based biometric verification is recommended. Candidates not using Aadhaar must report 2 hours early at the exam centre for manual verification.

🗓️ 8-Week Study Plan for SSC Selection Post Phase XIV 2026

💡 The CBT is tentatively in June 2026 — that is roughly 4–6 weeks from notification. This 8-week plan assumes you start from the notification date. If you start later, compress weeks 1–4 into 2 weeks and focus entirely on mock tests and GK in the final 2 weeks.

Week 1–2

Know Your Exam & Level

Identify whether you are applying for Matriculation, Higher Secondary, or Graduation level posts — the syllabus difficulty, the posts you can target, and pay levels all depend on this. Download the official Phase XIV notification PDF from ssc.gov.in. Skim previous year question papers to understand the actual exam feel. Do not start heavy study before this step.

Week 3–4

General Awareness Sprint

This is the fastest section to improve quickly before the exam. Focus on last 6 months of current affairs — use a free Telegram channel (Adda247, Oliveboard) for daily PDFs. Cover Indian polity, economy, history, and geography basics from NCERT Class 6–10 books (they are free online and sufficient for GK at all levels). Do 25 GK MCQs daily.

Week 5–6

Reasoning & Maths Foundation

Reasoning is logic-based — daily 20–30 practice questions on analogies, coding-decoding, series, and non-verbal reasoning will build speed quickly. For Quant, focus on percentage, ratio, time-work, and profit-loss. Matric-level students need basic arithmetic; Graduate-level students should add DI tables and pie charts. Build accuracy before speed.

Week 7–8

English & Full Mocks

English: daily one RC passage and 10 error-spotting questions. Grammar rules (active/passive, direct/indirect) can be learnt in one week with regular practice. Start full-length mock tests — aim for 2 per week. Analyse every mock carefully. The CBT is 60 minutes with sectional time (15 min/section) so time management is critical. Never skip a section.

🏆 Expert Tips for SSC Selection Post 2026

⏱️

Sectional timing (15 min per section) is SSC Selection Post's unique challenge. Practise all four sections individually with a timer before attempting full mocks. Candidates who attempt sections sequentially without practice tend to run out of time on Maths or Reasoning.

🎯

Negative marking is -0.50 per wrong answer (not -0.25 like CHSL). Attempt only questions you are confident about. Skipping 5 doubtful questions is better than attempting all 5 and getting 4 wrong — you'll lose 2 marks net vs. gaining 0.

🌍

General Awareness is the fastest score booster in SSC Selection Post. It requires no calculation, takes less than 30 seconds per question, and is tested the same way at all three levels. Invest 1 hour daily on current affairs and static GK for the last 4 weeks before the exam.

📋

Read the official notification carefully before choosing post codes. The Selection Post exam fills hundreds of specific isolated posts — eligibility, required experience, and posting location vary greatly by post code. Selecting the wrong post code is an irreversible mistake.

🧠

Reasoning is the most-attempted section and often the most time-consuming. Skip long and complex puzzles if they take more than 90 seconds — move on and return if time allows. Short questions like analogies, series, and coding-decoding give the fastest returns per minute.

💡

Common candidates (applying for multiple qualification levels) get separate admit cards per level. Read the exam day guidelines in the notification carefully — you must appear in the correct session for each level you applied for. Appearing in the wrong session can result in cancellation.

📅

The gap between notification and exam is only ~6–8 weeks in Phase XIV. Start as early as possible. A 2–3 hour focused daily study plan covering all four sections with daily mocks is sufficient for most candidates who are already prepared in SSC basics.

How many vacancies are announced in SSC Selection Post Phase 14 2026?

The Computer-Based Test (CBT) has 100 MCQs × 2 marks each = 200 marks total. Duration: 60 minutes with sectional timing of 15 minutes per section. 4 equal sections of 25 questions each: (1) General Intelligence & Reasoning, (2) General Awareness, (3) Quantitative Aptitude / Basic Arithmetic, (4) English Language & Comprehension. Negative marking: -0.50 marks per wrong answer. Separate sessions are conducted for Matric, Higher Secondary, and Graduation level candidates.
What is the salary for SSC Selection Post 2026?
Salary depends strictly on the post and its assigned pay level under the 7th Central Pay Commission (CPC). Posts range from Pay Level 1 (basic ₹18,000/month) to Pay Level 7 (basic ₹44,900/month). After adding DA (~42%), HRA, and TA, the total in-hand salary ranges from approximately ₹24,000 (Level 1, smaller city) to ₹65,000+ (Level 7, metro city). The 8th Pay Commission is expected to increase salaries by ~30–40% once notified.
Is there a Skill Test in SSC Selection Post 2026?
Yes, for certain posts only. If a post requires a Skill Test (e.g., typing test for Personal Assistant/Stenographer posts, data entry speed test, or a trade-specific test), shortlisted candidates must clear it after the CBT. The Skill Test is qualifying in nature — your CBT score determines merit and selection. Many posts require only CBT + Document Verification with no Skill Test. Check the specific post code in the notification PDF for the Skill Test requirement.
