Expert Preparation Tips

🎯

Prelims is just a filter — aim to clear it with 95%+ accuracy rather than attempting all 80 questions. 60–65 correct answers in 80 Qs will comfortably clear most state cutoffs.

⏱️

Practice Prelims under strict 45-minute timing from Day 1 of mock tests. Train yourself to skip time-consuming questions instantly — this is your most valuable skill for Prelims.

🏦

Mains General Awareness is where state-toppers are made. Candidates who maintain a banking diary (RBI circulars, scheme launches) score 35–40 out of 40 in this section.

🗣️

Since IBPS RRB serves rural India, having working knowledge of the local language is critical post-joining — even if not tested in the exam. Start picking up basics of your preferred state's language now.

📊

Cut-offs vary significantly by state and category. Always check state-wise previous year cut-offs before choosing your preferred state — some states have lower cut-offs due to fewer applicants.

💻

Computer Knowledge in Mains is the easiest scoring section — 20 marks in just 20 minutes. Dedicate just 2–3 weeks to it and score close to full marks here consistently.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q1. What is IBPS RRB Office Assistant (Clerk)?

IBPS RRB Office Assistant (commonly called IBPS RRB Clerk) is the clerical-level recruitment conducted by IBPS for Regional Rural Banks (RRBs) across India. The Office Assistant handles day-to-day banking operations such as cash handling, account opening, NEFT/RTGS processing, and customer service at rural bank branches.

Q2. How many Regional Rural Banks participate in IBPS RRB recruitment?

As of the CRP RRB XIII cycle, 43 Regional Rural Banks across India participate in the common recruitment process. These RRBs are spread across all states and UTs and are supervised by NABARD. Each RRB is sponsored by a major public sector bank (e.g., Aryavart Bank sponsored by Bank of India, Baroda UP Gramin Bank by Bank of Baroda).

Q3. What is the IBPS RRB Clerk salary in 2026?

The starting pay scale for IBPS RRB Office Assistant is ₹15,000 – ₹19,500/month (basic). After adding DA, HRA, and other allowances, the gross in-hand salary ranges from ₹22,000 to ₹26,000/month. While lower than urban bank salaries, the cost of living in rural/semi-urban posting areas is significantly less, making it highly attractive.

Q4. Is there a language test in IBPS RRB Clerk?

Yes. Unlike IBPS Clerk (urban banks), IBPS RRB has a language paper in the Mains exam itself. Candidates can choose between English and Hindi as their language test option. Proficiency in the local/official language of the state where the RRB is located is also expected for actual banking operations post-joining.

Q5. What is the difference between IBPS RRB Officer Scale I and Office Assistant?

Officer Scale I (PO equivalent) is a supervisory/managerial role with a pay scale of ₹36,000–₹63,840/month. It has three exam stages: Prelims, Mains, and Interview. Office Assistant (Clerk equivalent) is an operational/clerical role with a pay scale starting at ₹15,000/month. It has only two stages: Prelims and Mains — no interview. Office Assistant is easier to crack and is an excellent entry point.
