Nationality
Indian Citizen. Citizens of Nepal / Bhutan or Tibetan refugees (settled before 1 Jan 1962) may also apply under specified conditions.
Age Limit (General)
18–33 years as on cut-off date. OBC (NCL): +3 years (up to 36). SC/ST: +5 years (up to 38). PwBD: +10 years additional.
Educational Qualification
Diploma in Engineering (3-year) OR B.E. / B.Tech in relevant branch from a recognised university. Branch must match the applied post (Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics, IT, etc.).
Computer Proficiency
Basic Computer skills are desirable. Computer Knowledge is tested in CBT 2 for 10 marks.

5. Selection Process
CBT 1 — Qualifying Stage
100 questions / 100 marks / 90 minutes. Tests Mathematics, General Intelligence & Reasoning, General Awareness, and General Science. CBT 1 is qualifying only — marks are NOT added to your final merit score. Candidates equal to 15× the vacancy count are shortlisted for CBT 2.
CBT 2 — Merit-Deciding Stage
150 questions / 150 marks / 120 minutes. Tests General Awareness, Physics & Chemistry, Computer Basics, Environment & Pollution Control (50 marks), and Technical Abilities specific to your engineering branch (100 marks). Final rank is based entirely on CBT 2 marks. Candidates equal to 2–3× the vacancy count are shortlisted for DV.
Document Verification (DV)
Original certificates for education, caste, age, address, etc. are verified. Candidates must bring all documents mentioned in the notification. Any discrepancy leads to disqualification.
Medical Examination
Conducted at Railway Hospitals. Visual standards, colour vision, hearing, and general fitness are checked as per the medical criteria specified in the notification. Some posts (e.g., involving traction or field duty) have stricter vision requirements.
