What is SBI Apprentice 2026?

SBI Apprentice is a training programme run by the State Bank of India (SBI) under the Apprentices Act, 1961. Selected candidates undergo a one-year apprenticeship at SBI branches across India, gaining hands-on experience in banking operations, customer service, digital banking, and branch administration.

This is not a permanent employment offer. Apprentices receive a fixed stipend of ₹15,000/month with no DA, HRA, or other allowances. Upon completion, you receive a National Apprenticeship Certificate (NAC) from NCVT — a recognised credential.

The most important strategic benefit: SBI's official notification states that SBI Clerk (Junior Associates) recruitment gives weightage and relaxation to candidates who have successfully completed SBI Apprenticeship. For banking aspirants, this makes SBI Apprentice one of the smartest ways to build both experience and a competitive edge.

🎯 Expert Tips

Apply immediately — deadline is 8 June 2026

The application window is only 3 weeks. SBI career portals slow down near the deadline. Apply in the first week to avoid last-minute technical glitches. Fee payment also closes on 8 June.

🗣️

Pick your state based on language — LLT is a hard knockout

The Local Language Test is mandatory unless you have studied the language at 10th or 12th level. Failing LLT means disqualification even if you top the written exam. Only choose a state whose language you can read and write.

💻

Don't ignore Computer Aptitude — it's merged with Reasoning

The 4th section is officially 'Reasoning Ability & Computer Aptitude'. Computer questions on MS Office, hardware/software basics, networking, and OS shortcuts are included. 25 combined questions in 15 minutes.

📰

Last 3–4 months of current affairs matter most

General/Financial Awareness heavily tests recent banking events, RBI policy updates, and SBI news. Use GK Today, Adda247 current affairs capsule, or The Hindu daily. 15 minutes every morning for 4 weeks will cover it.

🏆

This is a strategic move toward SBI Clerk — plan it that way

SBI officially gives weightage to apprenticeship completers in SBI Clerk recruitment. Use the 1-year training to prepare intensively for SBI Clerk or SBI PO. The branch exposure will directly improve your banking awareness scores.

❓ Frequently Asked Questions

Is SBI Apprentice 2026 a permanent government job?
No. SBI Apprentice is NOT a permanent job. It is a 1-year training under the Apprenticeship Act 1961. After training you receive a National Apprenticeship Certificate (NAC) from NCVT. The official notification clearly states: "Engagement of apprentices does not guarantee employment in the Bank." However, SBI Clerk recruitment gives weightage/relaxation to candidates who have successfully completed SBI Apprenticeship — making it an excellent stepping stone.
What is the confirmed stipend for SBI Apprentice 2026?
The confirmed monthly stipend is ₹15,000 as stated in the official notification (CRPD/APPR/2026-27/07). This is a fixed training stipend — no DA, HRA, medical benefits, or other allowances are payable. It is NOT comparable to the salary of a permanent SBI employee.
What is the eligibility for SBI Apprentice 2026?
You must hold a Graduate degree in any discipline from a recognised university (or equivalent qualification approved by the Government). Your age must be between 20 and 28 years as on 30 April 2026. Age relaxation applies as per government rules: OBC (NCL): +3 years; SC/ST: +5 years; PwBD: +10 years.
Who is exempt from the Local Language Test (LLT)?
Candidates who have studied the local language of the state they applied for at Class 10 or Class 12 level — and whose mark sheet/certificate mentions it — are exempt from the Local Language Test. All other candidates must qualify the LLT. The test is conducted at the candidate's own expense at a centre in the applied state.
What is the exam pattern for SBI Apprentice 2026?
The written exam has 4 sections: (1) General/Financial Awareness, (2) General English, (3) Quantitative Aptitude, (4) Reasoning Ability & Computer Aptitude. Total: 100 questions, 100 marks, 60 minutes. Each section has 25 questions, 25 marks, 15 minutes. Negative marking of 0.25 marks per wrong answer. No penalty for unanswered questions. Questions are bilingual (English + Hindi) except General English.
What is the application fee and last date to apply?
Application fee: ₹300 for General, OBC, and EWS candidates. SC, ST, and PwBD candidates are fully exempt. Payment is online only (Debit Card, Credit Card, Net Banking, UPI). Last date to apply: 8 June 2026. Apply at sbi.bank.in/web/careers/current-openings.
What benefit does completing SBI Apprenticeship give for SBI Clerk?
This is a key advantage: SBI's official notification states that "Weightage/Relaxation in recruitment of Junior Associates (SBI Clerk) will be given to apprentices who have successfully completed the Apprenticeship training in our Bank." This means SBI Apprentice completers get preferential treatment when applying for SBI Clerk — a permanent, well-paid position. This makes SBI Apprenticeship a strategic career move, not just a training programme.
Can I apply for SBI Apprentice in more than one state?
No. Each candidate can apply for only one state or Union Territory. Choose carefully based on where you want to be posted and which local language you are comfortable with. Candidates who apply for a state whose local language they cannot read or write risk failing the LLT and being disqualified.
