What is SSC GD Constable?

SSC GD Constable is conducted by the Staff Selection Commission (SSC) to recruit Constable (General Duty) in Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) and other central security organisations. It is one of India's largest central government recruitments — open to candidates who have passed Class 10.

The selection involves a Computer-Based Test (CBT), followed by Physical Efficiency Test (PET), Physical Standard Test (PST), and a Medical Examination. There is no interview — final merit is based on CBT score (with NCC bonus where applicable).

Special One-Time 5-Year Age Relaxation Announced

Union Home Minister Amit Shah has announced a one-time additional 5-year age relaxation for candidates who were adversely affected by recent exam scheduling delays and recruitment disruptions in CAPF recruitments. This relaxation is applicable over and above the standard category-wise relaxations shown above. Candidates who may have crossed the normal upper age limit due to CAPF recruitment delays should check their eligibility again with this additional relaxation.

⚠️ Important: PwBD Candidates — Not Eligible

Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD) are not eligible to apply for SSC GD Constable. The posts are in the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs), which have mandatory combat and security-related physical requirements. These posts are classified as unsuitable for PwBD candidates as per the mandate of the respective CAPF forces. While standard government age relaxation tables list PwBD relaxations, the physical benchmark requirements effectively disqualify PwBD applicants from these specific posts.

New Medical Rules: BMI-Based Evaluation (March 2026)

As per the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) OM dated 09 March 2026, candidates will no longer be rejected on the basis of weight during PST. Weight assessment will now be done during the Medical Examination (MET) stage using BMI criteria. A BMI range of 18–25 is the eligibility standard — candidates outside this range may be disqualified at the medical stage. Height and chest will still be measured by the PST Board.

💡Expert Preparation Tips for SSC GD 2026

1GK is the game-changer: Most students neglect GK, but it's 20 questions with no calculation needed. A well-prepared student can answer all 20 in under 4 minutes. Invest 30 min/day in GK from Day 1.
2Don't overlook Hindi/English: 20 questions from grammar and vocabulary. They are the easiest marks if you practice regularly. Choose Hindi if you're more comfortable — it's equally scoring.
3Maths stays at Class 10 level: No advanced algebra or geometry. Focus on speed — all formulas for percentage, profit-loss, and ratios should be instant. Practice 30 Maths questions daily with a timer.
4Start physical training NOW: Many candidates clear CBT but fail PET. Male candidates must run 5 km in 24 min (pace: ~4:48/km). Start running 3 days a week from Month 1 so there's no last-minute panic.
5Solve PYQ (Previous Year Papers) from 2019, 2021, 2023, and 2025: SSC GD repeats topic patterns. Previous papers reveal which chapters get more questions every cycle.
6Use the NCC advantage: If you have an NCC certificate (A, B, or C), get it attested — these bonus marks (2–5% of total) can make a decisive difference in your final merit rank.
7Negative marking is only –0.25: Don't leave questions blank if you can eliminate even 1 option. Attempting 70 questions with 60 correct is better than attempting only 50.
