📅 Last Updated: 29 May 2026  |  The 2025 recruitment cycle (Advt. 01/2025) is now complete. Information below is based on the latest completed cycle and is useful for future recruitment preparation.

What is Bihar Police Constable Recruitment?

The Bihar Police Constable Recruitment is conducted by the Central Selection Board of Constable (CSBC), Bihar to fill vacancies for Constable (Civil Police) and allied posts in the Bihar Police force. The most recent recruitment cycle (Advt. No. 01/2025) announced 19,838 posts — one of the largest police recruitments in Bihar in recent years. The final merit list was released on 27 May 2026.

Posts are spread across District Police, Bihar Military Police (BMP), and Special Armed Police (SAP). The selection process follows these stages: Written Exam (qualifying only, min. 30%) → Physical Standard Test (PST) → Physical Efficiency Test (PET, 100 marks — decides final merit) → Document Verification → Medical Examination.

⚠️ Important: Unlike many other police exams, in the Bihar Police Constable exam the written test is only qualifying (minimum 30% required). The final merit list is based entirely on PET marks (Running: 50 marks, Shot Put: 25 marks, High Jump: 25 marks = 100 total). Physical fitness is therefore the most critical factor in selection.

This is an excellent opportunity for 12th pass candidates from Bihar who want a stable government job with pension, allowances, and career growth in state law enforcement.

✅ Recruitment Status (Advt. 01/2025): The 2025 cycle is now complete. Notification was released 11 March 2025, written exam held 16 July – 3 August 2025, PET conducted 15 December 2025 – 11 March 2026, and the final merit list with 19,838 selected candidates was published on 27 May 2026. The next recruitment notification has not been announced yet — check csbc.bihar.gov.in for updates.

Exam Pattern – Written Test

⚠️ Critical Understanding: The written exam is qualifying only (minimum 30% required). It does NOT contribute to the final merit list. The final selection is based entirely on PET marks (100 marks). However, competition is intense — in the 2025 cycle, the actual cutoff for General Male was ~68/100, since 5× the vacancies were called for PET.

📌 Key Exam Rules

  • Each correct answer: +1 mark
  • No negative marking — attempt all 100 questions
  • ! Minimum qualifying marks: 30% (30 out of 100)
  • Language: Bilingual (Hindi and English)
  • Questions are of Matriculation / 10th standard difficulty level
  • Written exam is qualifying only — final merit is based entirely on PET marks (100 marks)

Physical Test – PST & PET (Merit Stage)

🎯 Most Important Stage: The PET carries 100 marks and is the sole basis for the final merit list. The written exam is qualifying only. Candidates who score higher in PET get selected — regardless of their written exam score (as long as they cleared the 30% minimum). Start physical training from Day 1 of your preparation.

Candidates who qualify the written exam (minimum 30%) are called for the Physical Standard Test (PST) and Physical Efficiency Test (PET). The PST checks height, chest, and weight — it is pass/fail. The PET is scored out of 100 marks across three events and determines the final merit rank.

Physical Standard Test (PST) – Measurements (Pass/Fail)

TOTAL PET MARKS (decides final merit)100

💡 Preparation Tips: Running carries 50% weightage — start with 2–3 km runs at least 3 months before the PET and gradually build speed and endurance. For Shot Put and High Jump, practise correct technique — marks are awarded on a graded scale based on distance/height achieved. Many candidates fail the PET despite clearing the written exam — physical training is essential.

Expert Tips – Preparation Strategy

🏃
Physical fitness is THE deciding factor
In Bihar Police Constable recruitment, the written exam is only qualifying (30% minimum). The final merit list is based entirely on PET marks (Running: 50, Shot Put: 25, High Jump: 25 = 100 total). Start physical training from Day 1 — don't wait until after the written exam.
🎯
Hindi is your highest-scoring written subject
With 25 marks, Hindi carries the most weight of any single subject in the written exam. Candidates who master grammar — Sandhi, Samas, idioms, and comprehension — often clear the qualifying cutoff comfortably.
🌏
Study Bihar-specific GK separately
Questions on Bihar history, districts, rivers, government schemes (like Mukhyamantri Kanya Utthan Yojana), and state culture are direct marks. Most general GK books do not cover this — use a dedicated Bihar GK book.
Attempt all 100 questions — no negative marking
There is zero negative marking. Never leave any question blank. Use elimination strategy on questions you are unsure about and always mark your best guess. Remember, you need to clear the cutoff — in the 2025 cycle, General Male cutoff was ~68/100.
📊
Solve previous year question papers
Past Bihar Police Constable papers reveal the actual question style, difficulty level, and which topics recur most often. The 2025 cycle question papers (July–August 2025) are available for download and are the best reference for future exams.
📰
Follow Bihar current affairs daily
GK and Current Affairs together account for 15 marks. Focus on Bihar-specific news: government schemes, budget highlights, sports achievements, and appointments in Bihar. A simple daily newspaper habit over 3 months is enough.
