What is KVS Recruitment 2026?
Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS) is an autonomous organisation under the Ministry of Education, Government of India. It operates a network of over 1,253 Kendriya Vidyalayas across India and abroad — including schools in Moscow, Kathmandu, Tehran, Tashkent, and Kathmandu — primarily serving children of Central Government employees and defence/paramilitary personnel.
KVS recruits teachers across three levels: PRT (Primary Teacher) for Classes 1–5, TGT (Trained Graduate Teacher) for Classes 6–10, and PGT (Post Graduate Teacher) for Classes 11–12. Each post has different educational qualifications, subject requirements, and salary scales. The 2025-26 cycle introduced a Two-Tier Computer-Based Test (CBT) system — Tier 1 is a 100-mark screening test, and Tier 2 is a subject-specific test (Objective + Descriptive). TGT/PGT posts additionally require an Interview and Demo Lesson. The 2025-26 drive was conducted jointly with Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS) by CBSE.
KVS is one of India's most sought-after teaching jobs — offering Central Government salary with 7th CPC pay scales, excellent job security, a 6-week summer vacation, and the prestige of teaching in a nationally-recognised school chain. The 2022-23 recruitment saw over 30 lakh applications for 13,404 posts.

6-Month Study Plan
Start with Indian History (Ancient to Modern), Geography (physical + political), and Polity (Constitution, Articles, Amendments). Read one NCERT per day from Class 6–10 series. Simultaneously start reading a Hindi newspaper daily for 15 minutes — this builds both Current Affairs and Hindi language skills. Make handwritten notes on each NCERT chapter.
English: Complete Word Power Made Easy (1–3 chapters/day). Practice Grammar through previous year papers. Hindi: Practice Vyakaran (grammar) topics with Lucent's Hindi Vyakaran. Reasoning: Start with basic topics — Analogies, Series, Coding-Decoding. Aim for 30 reasoning questions daily. Take sectional mock tests every weekend.
This is your most critical month — subject content forms 60 marks (PRT) or 80 marks (TGT/PGT). PRT candidates: revise Class 1–8 content across all subjects including EVS, Mathematics, and Language. TGT/PGT candidates: revise graduation-level content for your chosen subject thoroughly. Make topic-wise notes from NCERT + standard reference book for your subject.
Pedagogy carries 10 marks but is a differentiator — many candidates neglect it. Study NCERT pedagogy manuals, NCF 2005, and NEP 2020 thoroughly. Learn child development theories (Piaget, Vygotsky, Kohlberg) and teaching methods. Prepare for CTET if not already qualified — CTET Paper 1 (PRT) or Paper 2 (TGT) is mandatory for selection. Practice 15 pedagogy MCQs daily.
Computer section has 10 marks — 2 weeks of focused study is enough for full marks. Cover MS Office basics, Internet, Networking, and Educational Technology. Current Affairs: Start daily revision of last 6–12 months. Use Lucent's GK + monthly current affairs booklets (Pratiyogita Darpan or Arihant). Take full-section GK mock tests.
Take 2–3 full-length Tier 1 mock tests per week — focus on speed since you have 100Q in 120 mins with negative marking. Analyse each mock for error patterns; avoid random guessing. Once shortlisted for Tier 2, shift focus entirely to subject content depth and the descriptive section. TGT/PGT candidates: Prepare your Demo Lesson (10–15 minutes on a topic from your subject). Practice teaching out loud. Prepare for interview questions on NEP 2020, NCF 2005, your subject, and KVS mission. Final week: revision only.

Expert Tips for KVS 2026
CTET qualification is a hard prerequisite for PRT (Paper 1) and TGT (Paper 2) — no CTET means no selection, even if you score 200/200 in the written test. If you haven't cleared CTET yet, register for the next cycle immediately. CTET is conducted twice a year by CBSE.
Part III (Subject Content) accounts for 60 marks (PRT) or 80 marks (TGT/PGT) — it is the biggest section and also where most candidates score poorly. Treat it as your primary focus: 40–50% of your study time should go here. NCERT textbooks are the foundation; read every chapter for your subject from Class 1 to 12.
NEP 2020 and NCF 2005 are no longer optional reading — KVS has increased their weightage in Pedagogy sections since 2022. KVS's own Vision and Mission is closely aligned with NEP goals. Read both documents thoroughly and know the key recommendations, reforms, and structural changes proposed.
For TGT/PGT, the Demo Lesson (10–15 minutes) is a significant scoring opportunity. Judges evaluate your communication, knowledge of the topic, teaching aids used, and student engagement. Practise teaching out loud at home at least 15–20 times before the interview. Choose a topic you are deeply comfortable with.
KVS recruitment cycles are irregular — there was no major notification from 2018-19 until 2022-23. Don't wait for the notification to start preparing. Candidates who prepare 9–12 months in advance are consistently among the top scorers. Use the waiting period to clear CTET and strengthen subject content.
KVS has over 1,200 schools across India, including abroad (Moscow, Kathmandu, Tehran, Teheran). Kendriya Vidyalayas serve children of Central Government employees and defence personnel. Knowing the KVS mission, growth history, and organisational structure helps you in interviews — and also during Demo Lessons.
Age relaxation applies: SC/ST get +5 years, OBC (NCL) get +3 years, PwBD get +10 years. Women candidates (all categories) get an additional 10-year relaxation for teaching posts. Ex-servicemen and widows of defence personnel also get relaxations as per government rules. The maximum age limit is 30 years (PRT), 35 years (TGT), and 40 years (PGT) for General/EWS before relaxation.
Negative marking is NOW applicable in the 2025-26 cycle. Tier 1 carries −1/3 mark per wrong MCQ answer; Tier 2 carries −1/4 mark per wrong MCQ answer. Do NOT attempt questions you are unsure of. Candidates who scored well in previous cycles (no negative marking) will need to recalibrate their strategy — accuracy matters more than speed.
This was a Joint Recruitment Drive conducted by CBSE simultaneously for both KVS and NVS (Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti). The same Tier 1 paper is common, and candidates can apply for both organisations. If you are also eligible for NVS, consider applying there too — it significantly increases your chances of securing a central government teaching post.
