CTET Paper 2 is a hard prerequisite for TGT posts — no CTET means no selection even with a perfect score in Tier 2. If you haven't cleared CTET yet, register for the next CBSE CTET cycle (held twice a year) immediately. CTET scores are now valid lifetime. For PGT posts, CTET is not mandatory, but the Pedagogy section in Tier 2 overlaps heavily with CTET content.

Tier 2 is the single biggest differentiator between selected and rejected candidates — it contributes 85% of the final merit, while Tier 1 contributes nothing beyond getting you shortlisted. NCERT textbooks (Class 6–12) are the non-negotiable foundation. Read every chapter for your subject, make notes, and solve NCERT exercises. PGT candidates should also revise their master's degree notes for higher-order conceptual questions.

NVS is a residential school system — all Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas are boarding schools primarily in rural areas. Selected teachers receive free accommodation on campus and subsidised meals. This is a lifestyle choice — be fully prepared for residential campus life, especially if you are relocating away from your home state.

The 2025-26 recruitment was a Joint Drive — KVS and NVS shared one CBSE-conducted Tier 1 paper covering 15,762 posts in total (KVS 9,921 + NVS 5,841), and a single integrated application let candidates opt for both organisations. Future cycles may continue this model, so always check navodaya.gov.in, kvsangathan.nic.in and cbse.gov.in together when a new notification is released.

NVS regular recruitment cycles are irregular, with gaps of 2–4 years between major notifications — so don't wait for the next one to start preparing. The Contractual (Samvida) cycle runs every year, region-wise, across the eight NVS Regional Offices and needs no written exam, which makes it a realistic way to gain JNV classroom experience while you wait for the regular cycle. Know the two different penalties. Tier 1 awards +3 per correct answer and deducts a full −1 mark for every wrong one — three wrong guesses wipe out an entire correct answer. Tier 2's objective section is gentler at +1 and −0.25. Because Tier 1 is only a screening test (shortlisting roughly 1:10) and its marks are NOT carried into the final merit, accuracy there matters far more than attempt count: leave a question blank rather than guess, since unattempted questions carry no penalty at all.

NEP 2020 is central to both the Pedagogy section and the Interview. Know the 5+3+3+4 framework, the emphasis on mother-tongue instruction, competency-based education, and the 10+2 to 12-year schooling structure change. NVS interviewers consistently ask about NEP 2020 implementation, especially for PGT and Vice-Principal posts.

The Demo Lesson for TGT/PGT interviews is a 10–15 minute micro-teaching session on a topic from your subject. Choose a topic where you can use classroom engagement techniques — questions to students, real-life examples, blackboard work. Avoid reading from notes. Practise out loud at home 15–20 times. Interview panels evaluate your communication, subject depth, and teaching aptitude simultaneously.
