1What is NVS Teaching Recruitment 2026?

Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS) is an autonomous organisation under the Ministry of Education, Government of India, that runs the 661+ Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas (JNVs) across 27 states and 8 Union Territories. These are fully residential, co-educational schools from Class 6 to 12, primarily serving talented students from rural backgrounds — 75% of seats are reserved for rural students.

NVS recruits teaching staff — PGT (Classes 11–12), TGT (Classes 6–10), and Miscellaneous Teaching posts — along with non-teaching staff including Principal, Vice Principal, and administrative roles. In 2025-26, NVS partnered with KVS (Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan) for a Joint Recruitment Drive conducted by CBSE, announcing 5,841 NVS-specific vacancies.

💡 2026 Update: The 2025-26 regular cycle (Notification 01/2025) has completed Tier 1 (Jan 2026) and Tier 2 (Mar 2026). Final results are expected in July 2026. The next regular recruitment cycle has not been notified yet. Meanwhile, NVS Contractual Recruitment 2026-27 (region-wise, for PGT, TGT, and support staff on contract basis) is ongoing across multiple NVS regions.

96-Month Study Plan

Month 1
GK Foundation + Hindi/English Basics
Start with NCERT textbooks (Class 6–10) for History, Geography, Science, and Polity. Read one chapter per day and make brief notes. Simultaneously start a Hindi newspaper for 15 minutes daily — this dual-benefits Current Affairs and Hindi grammar. Practice 10 English grammar questions daily from any competitive English book. Build a habit of checking navodaya.gov.in and cbse.gov.in for updates.
Month 2
Reasoning + Computer Literacy
Reasoning: master all foundational topics — Analogies, Series, Coding-Decoding, Classification. Target 25–30 Reasoning questions daily with accuracy, not speed. Computer Literacy section is just 10 marks — two weeks of focused study (MS Office, Internet basics, Networking fundamentals) is sufficient for full marks. Take one Tier 1 sectional mock per week and review every wrong answer.
Month 3
Domain Subject Content – Phase 1 (PGT/TGT)
This is the most critical section — 80 marks out of 100 in Tier 2. TGT candidates: revise entire bachelor's degree syllabus systematically. PGT candidates: revise master's degree level content. For both: NCERT textbooks (Class 6–12) are the non-negotiable foundation for subject content. Make chapter-wise notes. Focus on conceptual understanding, not rote memorisation.
Month 4
Pedagogy (Teaching Methodology)
Pedagogy carries 10 marks but is a differentiator — many candidates neglect it. Study child development theories (Piaget, Vygotsky, Kohlberg), teaching methods, and inclusive education principles. Read NEP 2020 and NCF 2005 official documents — NVS interviews heavily reference both. If you haven't cleared CTET (mandatory for TGT), register for the next CBSE CTET cycle immediately. Practice 15 Pedagogy MCQs daily using CTET-prep books.
Month 5
Domain Subject Content – Phase 2 + Current Affairs
Continue deep-diving into subject content. For Science TGT/PGT: practise numerical problems. For Social Science/History TGT: master maps, timelines, and key events. Current Affairs: start intensive revision of the last 6–12 months. Use monthly GK capsules (Pratiyogita Darpan or Arihant) plus daily online quizzes. Start connecting GK with Pedagogy — NEP 2020 connects to both sections.
Month 6
Full Mocks + Interview/Demo Prep
Take 2–3 full Tier 1 mock tests per week — aim for 85+/100. Analyse every mock error pattern. Shift to full Tier 2 mocks in final weeks. For those shortlisted for Interview/Demo Lesson: prepare a 10–15 minute demo on a topic from your subject. Practice teaching out loud at home 15–20 times. Prepare answers on NEP 2020, NVS mission, your subject, and inclusive education. Final week: revision only, no new topics.

12Expert Tips to Crack NVS 2026

🎓

CTET Paper 2 is a hard prerequisite for TGT posts — no CTET means no selection even with a perfect score in Tier 2. If you haven't cleared CTET yet, register for the next CBSE CTET cycle (held twice a year) immediately. CTET scores are now valid lifetime. For PGT posts, CTET is not mandatory, but the Pedagogy section in Tier 2 overlaps heavily with CTET content.

📚

Domain Subject Content (Tier 2) carries 80 out of 100 marks — it is the biggest differentiator between selected and rejected candidates. NCERT textbooks (Class 6–12) are the non-negotiable foundation. Read every chapter for your subject, make notes, and solve NCERT exercises. PGT candidates should also revise their master's degree notes for higher-order conceptual questions.

🏫

NVS is a residential school system — all Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas are boarding schools primarily in rural areas. Selected teachers receive free accommodation on campus and subsidised meals. This is a lifestyle choice — be fully prepared for residential campus life, especially if you are relocating away from your home state.

🤝

The 2025-26 recruitment was a Joint Drive — both KVS and NVS shared the same Tier 1 paper conducted by CBSE. If you applied to both, your Tier 1 performance was evaluated simultaneously. Future cycles may continue this model. Always check both navodaya.gov.in and kvsangathan.nic.in when a new notification is released.

📅

NVS recruitment cycles are irregular with gaps of 2–4 years between major notifications. Don't wait for the next notification to start preparing. The Contractual Recruitment (Samvida) cycle happens annually region-wise and is a great way to gain classroom experience in JNVs while waiting for the regular cycle. Check NVS regional offices for contractual openings.

⚠️

Negative marking applies: Tier 1 carries −1/4 mark per wrong MCQ answer; Tier 2 similarly has negative marking. Do NOT attempt questions you are unsure about. In Tier 1, a score of 65–70/100 with high accuracy is more competitive than 80/100 with random guesses. The Language Competency Test in Tier 2 is qualifying — you must pass it, but marks do not count toward your final merit.

💡

NEP 2020 is central to both the Pedagogy section and the Interview. Know the 5+3+3+4 framework, the emphasis on mother-tongue instruction, competency-based education, and the 10+2 to 12-year schooling structure change. NVS interviewers consistently ask about NEP 2020 implementation, especially for PGT and Vice-Principal posts.

🎭

The Demo Lesson for TGT/PGT interviews is a 10–15 minute micro-teaching session on a topic from your subject. Choose a topic where you can use classroom engagement techniques — questions to students, real-life examples, blackboard work. Avoid reading from notes. Practise out loud at home 15–20 times. Interview panels evaluate your communication, subject depth, and teaching aptitude simultaneously.

🌐

NVS has 661+ Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas across 27 states and 8 UTs, serving Class 6–12 students predominantly from rural and semi-urban backgrounds. Teaching here is a true mission — 75% of seats are reserved for rural students. If you are passionate about transforming education in underserved India, NVS offers a career that aligns purpose with profession.

13FAQs – NVS Teaching Recruitment 2026

What is the status of NVS Recruitment 2025-26?
NVS Notification 01/2025 was released on 13 November 2025 by CBSE as a Joint KVS+NVS drive, announcing 5,841 NVS vacancies. Tier 1 CBT was conducted on 10–11 January 2026. For immediate openings, NVS Contractual Recruitment 2026-27 (region-wise) is ongoing — check navodaya.gov.in.
Is CTET mandatory for NVS TGT posts?
Yes. CTET Paper 2 qualification is mandatory for TGT (Trained Graduate Teacher) posts in NVS. No CTET means ineligibility, regardless of your Tier 1 or Tier 2 scores. CTET is now valid for a lifetime (CBSE removed the 7-year validity in 2021). For PGT (Post Graduate Teacher) posts, CTET is not mandatory, but the Pedagogy section in Tier 2 heavily overlaps with CTET content.
What is the NVS TGT/PGT salary in 2026?
NVS TGT salary is ₹44,900/month basic pay (Pay Level 7), with DA at ~55% (as of 2026) adding ₹24,695/month, plus HRA and other allowances — total gross is approximately ₹86,000–₹90,000/month. NVS PGT salary is ₹47,600/month basic (Pay Level 8), totalling approximately ₹92,000–₹98,000/month gross. Additionally, residential teachers receive free on-campus accommodation and subsidised meals, which significantly adds to the effective compensation.
What is the age limit for NVS PGT and TGT recruitment?
The maximum age limit for NVS TGT is 35 years and for NVS PGT is 40 years, as of the cut-off date in the official notification. Age relaxations apply: OBC (NCL) +3 years, SC/ST +5 years, PwBD +10 years, Women candidates (all categories) get an additional 5 years relaxation for teaching posts. Ex-servicemen get relaxation as per government norms.
How is the NVS Tier 2 final merit calculated?
The final merit for Principal, Vice Principal, PGT, and TGT posts is calculated as: 85% weightage from Tier 2 written exam marks + 15% weightage from Interview/Demo Lesson marks. The Language Competency Test in Tier 2 is qualifying in nature — candidates must pass it, but its marks are NOT added to the final merit. For non-teaching posts like JSA, final selection is based solely on Tier 2 marks.
What subjects can I apply for in NVS TGT and PGT?
NVS PGT subjects include: Hindi, English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, History, Geography, Economics, Commerce, Computer Science/IT, and Physical Education (Male & Female).
