Supreme Court JCA 2026 – Junior Court Assistant
One of India's most prestigious non-gazetted Group B posts. Join the apex court — the Supreme Court of India — as a Junior Court Assistant. Graduate + typing proficiency required. Salary Level 6 (₹35,400 basic, ~₹73,000 gross at 60% DA).
The SCI JCA 2025 recruitment (241 vacancies) is fully concluded — Final Result declared on 10 Oct 2025 and selected candidates have joined. As on 5 August 2026 no regular JCA 2026 notification appears in the official Recruitments section. The Supreme Court did run other 2026 recruitments (see Section 2). Monitor www.sci.gov.in/recruitments/ for updates.
1What is Supreme Court JCA 2026?
The Supreme Court Junior Court Assistant (JCA) is a Group B Non-Gazetted post directly under the Supreme Court of India — the country's apex judicial authority. JCAs handle administrative functions, maintain case records, assist Judges and Registrars, manage correspondence, and keep the court's daily operations running smoothly.
Recruitment is conducted directly by the Supreme Court (no SSC or UPSC involvement), making this a rare, direct central government job. The pay, prestige, and job security make it highly sought after by graduates across India.
2Current Status 2026
The SCI JCA 2025 recruitment cycle is fully over — Final Result declared on 10 October 2025, document verification + medical examination completed, and selected candidates have received joining orders. As on 5 August 2026 the official Recruitments section of www.sci.gov.in carries no advertisement for the regular Junior Court Assistant post. Historically, SCI releases a new JCA notification roughly every 1–3 years (2016 → 2019 → 2022 → 2025), so the next cycle is realistically due but remains unannounced. ⚠️ Several websites recycle old 2022 pages showing "210 vacancies, apply 18 June – 10 July" and label them 2026 — those dates belong to the 2022 cycle. Ignore them.
The Supreme Court Registry has run several 2026 recruitments, none of them for the regular JCA post:
- Assistant Editor (SCR), Assistant Director (Museum), Senior Court Assistant (Museum), Assistant Librarian — 22 vacancies. Detailed advertisement 19 Feb 2026; applications 23 Feb – 8 Mar 2026 (closed). Pay Level 8 to Level 12. Requires a Law degree, or a Master's in Museology / Library Science depending on the post.
- Law Clerk-cum-Research Associate (2026–27) — short-term contractual engagement. Advertisement 20 Jan 2026, last date 7 Feb 2026; examination notices issued 21–24 Apr 2026.
- Court Master (Shorthand) 2025 — list of qualified candidates published 19 Mar 2026.
- General Manager, Supreme Court Departmental Canteen — deputation basis, circular dated 19 Feb 2026 (Level 7).
On 17 April 2026 the Supreme Court published the syllabus for the posts of Senior Court Assistant-cum-Senior Programmer and Junior Court Assistant-cum-Junior Programmer. This syllabus relates to the recruitment advertised in June 2025 (26 posts: 6 Senior + 20 Junior, applications 6–27 June 2025) whose examination stages were still pending — it is not a fresh 2026 vacancy announcement.
Important: this is a different post from the regular JCA. It requires a B.E./B.Tech in Computer Science or IT, or B.Sc (CS) / BCA and sits at Pay Level 6. Graduates from other streams are NOT eligible.

6Exam Pattern 2026
Only candidates who qualify both the Objective Written Test and the Computer Knowledge Test are called for the Typing and Descriptive Tests.
- Stage 1: Objective Type Written Test – 100 MCQs, 2 Hours

- Stage 3: English Typing Test on Computer – 35 WPM, 10 minutes, max 3% mistakes
- Stage 4: Descriptive Test in English – Comprehension + Précis + Essay, 2 Hours
- Stage 5: Interview (called in 1:3 ratio — 3 candidates per vacancy)
- Stage 6: Document Verification + Medical Examination
Stage 1: Objective Written Test
| Subject | Questions | Marks |
|---|---|---|
| General English (incl. Comprehension) | 50 | 50 |
| General Aptitude | 25 | 25 |
| General Knowledge | 25 | 25 |
| Total | 100 | 100 |
Many websites show a single 125-question paper. Both must be qualified to move ahead.
Total duration: 2 Hours for the Objective Test. Typing Test (35 WPM English, 10 minutes, mistakes allowed up to 3% of total words) is conducted on a computer. No negative marking in the 2025 cycle — +1 for correct, 0 for wrong or unattempted.
Descriptive Test: Comprehension + Précis Writing + Essay Writing | Duration: 2 Hours | Qualifying marks in the 2025 cycle: 55/100.
The 2025 written test was held at 128 centres across 28 States/Union Territories, so most candidates get a centre reasonably close to home. Centre lists are published with each notification.

13Expert Tips to Crack SCI JCA
The typing test is qualifying and conducted on the same day as the written exam. Many candidates with good written scores fail due to typing speed. Target 40 WPM well before the exam so you have a comfortable buffer on exam day.
With 50 out of 100 marks in the Objective Test plus the entire Descriptive Test in English, language proficiency is your biggest differentiator. Read The Hindu or Indian Express editorials daily. Practice précis writing weekly from Month 1.
The Supreme Court recruits its own staff. Expect questions on the Constitution, Articles 124–147 (the Supreme Court), landmark judgments, Chief Justices, and judicial procedures. This niche area is often ignored by competitors — use it to your advantage.
Candidates who clear the objective stage often neglect the Descriptive Test. You must score at least 55/100 to be eligible for interview. Practice essay topics like judicial reforms, access to justice, and AI in courts — these are highly relevant for SCI.
The gap between notification and exam is typically 4–6 weeks. Candidates who are already at 80% preparation level win this exam. Follow www.sci.gov.in/recruitments/ so you don't miss the notification the moment it drops.
