1What is JPSC Civil Services?

The Jharkhand Combined Civil Services Examination is conducted by the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) to recruit officers for Group A and Group B posts in the state administration. Successful candidates serve as Deputy Collectors, Deputy Superintendents of Police, Urban Development Officers, and other key administrative roles.

JPSC is the premier state-level competitive exam in Jharkhand, structured in three stages — Prelims, Mains, and Interview — modelled after the UPSC Civil Services examination. What makes JPSC unique is the dedicated Jharkhand-specific Paper II in Prelims (200 marks) covering tribal history, culture, geography, and state governance.

The 2026 cycle (Advt. 01/2026) notified 103 vacancies on January 29, 2026. Mains exams have been completed and Interviews are scheduled for June 16–19, 2026. Additionally, 52 backlog vacancies (Advt. 05 & 06/2026) were announced in March 2026 exclusively for reserved category candidates.

9Study Plan — JPSC 2026–27

Months 1–2

Foundation: Jharkhand GK + History + Geography

This is the single most important differentiator in JPSC. Start with Jharkhand-specific content — tribal history, geography, districts, economy — before standard GS. Use NCERT 9–12 for national topics and a dedicated Jharkhand GK book. Prelims Paper II (200 marks) is entirely Jharkhand-focused and is where most aspirants lose or gain their edge.

Months 3–4

Polity, Economy & Science

Cover Indian Polity (Lakshmikanth), Economy (Mrunal), and General Science (NCERT 6–10). Special focus on PESA Act, forest rights laws, Fifth Schedule, and tribal welfare policies — these appear every year in both Prelims Paper II and Mains Paper III–V. Begin answer-writing practice for descriptive Mains.

Month 5

Language Paper + Current Affairs

Finalise your Mains Paper II language choice and practice essays, précis, and translation daily. Build a consistent current affairs habit — both national and Jharkhand-specific. Follow Jharkhand government press releases, scheme launches, and state budget allocations.

Months 6–7

Prelims Mock Tests + Full Revision

Attempt 20+ full Prelims mock tests. Target Paper I ≥ 120/200 and Paper II ≥ 130/200. Analyse wrong answers weekly — Jharkhand-specific questions in Paper II often have tricky distractors. Revise NCERT summaries and Jharkhand GK flashcards daily. Study backlog vacancies pattern if appearing for Advt. 05/06 cycle.

Month 8 onwards

Mains Answer Writing + Interview Prep

Post-Prelims result, shift entirely to Mains answer writing — minimum one essay per day and at least 3 long-form answers. For Interview, prepare a detailed DAF and practise questions on Jharkhand governance, tribal issues, mining economy, and current development news. Interview is 100 marks and can make or break close-rank candidates.

12Expert Tips to Crack JPSC 2026

1

Master Jharkhand GK first — it's the real differentiator

Prelims Paper II is entirely Jharkhand-specific and carries 200 marks. Most aspirants from outside Jharkhand underestimate this paper. Start here before standard GS. Tribal history, geography, economy, culture, and current state affairs — master all of it. This paper alone can separate you from the pack.

2

Choose your Mains language paper wisely

Mains Paper II (150 marks) requires choosing 1 of 15 regional/national languages. Pick the language you can write essays and translations in most fluently. Don't pick tribal languages for novelty value — choose what genuinely gives you maximum marks.

3

Prelims are a gateway; Mains are everything

Prelims marks do NOT count in the final merit. Your entire rank is decided by Mains (950 marks) + Interview (100 marks). Invest 60–70% of your total preparation time in Mains answer writing, essay practice, and language quality.

4

Tribal issues and PESA Act are permanent scoring territory

Jharkhand has 26.2% tribal population. JPSC consistently tests knowledge of tribal history, PESA Act, Fifth Schedule, forest rights laws, PVTGs, and Jharkhand's tribal welfare schemes. This is a high-yield topic that requires deep understanding, not just factual memorisation.

5

Follow Jharkhand government news actively

JPSC exams always include questions on current Jharkhand government schemes, infrastructure projects, budget allocations, and the Chief Minister's flagship initiatives. Read Prabhat Khabar or Dainik Jagran Jharkhand daily and maintain a running note of state government activities.
