State PSC Exams 2026

Every state has its own Public Service Commission, set up under the same constitutional provisions that govern the Union Public Service Commission. These commissions recruit into the state civil services and state police services, and into a wide range of departmental posts such as Block Development Officer, Tehsildar, Naib Tehsildar and Assistant Commissioner.

The structure closely mirrors the Civil Services pattern: an objective Preliminary examination for screening, a descriptive Main examination, and an interview. Where state commissions differ is in the details. Many include a compulsory regional language paper, some run an optional subject in the Mains, and syllabus weighting is heavily tilted towards the state’s own history, geography, polity and current affairs.

A State PSC officer is appointed by the Governor and serves within that one state. Age limits and relaxations are generally more generous than the Civil Services, and several commissions restrict certain reservation benefits to candidates holding domicile of that state, so read the eligibility clause of each notification carefully before applying.
