4Selection Process
Preliminary Examination (Screening)
Objective MCQ test — Paper I (GS, 200 marks) + Paper II (CSAT, qualifying at 40%). Only Paper I marks count for merit. No negative marking. Approx. 12–13× vacancies qualify for Mains.
Mains Examination (Descriptive)
7 descriptive papers totalling 1,350 marks (3 hours each). Papers I & II (Punjabi, English) are qualifying. Papers III–VII (Essay + 4 GS) are merit-based. Candidates must score 45% aggregate (40% for SC/ST) and 25% in each paper.
Personal Interview / Personality Test
150 marks. Assesses personality, communication, leadership, administrative aptitude, awareness of Punjab affairs, and moral integrity. Conducted at PPSC headquarters, Patiala.
Final Merit & Appointment
Final merit is based on Mains (1,350) + Interview (150) = 1,500 marks. Prelims marks are NOT counted. After document verification, final appointment orders are issued by the Punjab Government.
